Dublin, a city steeped in history with a vibrant culture, is witnessing a dramatic shift in its creative landscape. Dublin 7, home to Node’s newest hub, is on the doorstep of some of the coolest and creative neighbourhoods – Stoneybatter, Phibsborough, and Smithfield. A new wave of young creatives are shifting towards this area but why are they choosing to move north of the Dublin docks?
Simply put – It’s the kind of place our Nodies want to call home! It’s become a hub for innovation and creative expression, all the while holding to its traditional roots.
Let’s start with StoneyBatter, with its cobblestone streets, Viking-named roads and colorful facades, is a neighborhood that effortlessly blends old-world charm with contemporary flair. Formerly a working-class area, it has evolved into a hub for artists, musicians, and designers. Its mix of independent shops, cozy cafes, and lively pubs, providing the perfect backdrop for creative inspiration.
While Phibsborough, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, this up-and-coming neighborhood is attracting a new wave of creative talent drawn to its affordable studio spaces. With its converted warehouses and exceptional street art, Phibsborough is quickly becoming a hotspot for emerging artists and entrepreneurs. The Grangegorman College Campus is only a 5 minute walk from our home! Node loves it when an organic community emerges from affordability of location, fresh opportunity and a fresh body of creatives in constant innovation. This neighbourhood is undergoing a revolutionary transformation at this very moment.
Smithfield, home to the iconic Jameson Distillery and the historic Smithfield Market, was known as a bustling market district in the 17th century. While the market is being redeveloped, Labour councillor Deborah Byrne told the Irish Independent “Communities across the city are eager to witness the redevelopment of the Smithfield Fruit and Vegetable Market in a manner that honours our past and provides a new social and cultural space for generations of Dubliners in the future.” Smithfields unique street art and vibrant nightlife inspire both locals and creatives in a variety of ways. With its central location and thriving arts scene, Smithfield has become a sought-after destination for those looking to immerse themselves in Dublin’s creative spirit.
Amidst these neighbourhoods and the artistic energy of Dublin 7, our second location is being born. It was only a matter of time before we knew we would open our second Dublin location. We emerged as the first coliving community in Ireland in 2017 with our fully reimagined boutique Georgian terrace right off of the historic Fitzwilliam Square in Dublin 2. This community has been an inspiration for us as we’ve engaged in Dublin throughout the years. We have seen how residents from around the world craved community, created genuine friendships and became immersed in Irish culture as they moved to and lived in Fitzwilliam Square.
